My brother-in-law has had Apple computers ever since the Apple 2 or whatever it was called. He's had every model of Mac there ever was and none of them has ever outlasted my PCs. The only difference between a Mac and a PC is that Mac costs twice as much. They're made from the same parts and anybody who thinks different is a retard. BTW, I'm no Windows lemming and never have been. They're even dumber than Apple fanboys. OS/2 and now Linux for me. Drool bitches.

I have got the black macbook, it freezes as much as my windows PC does, it's just as slow/fast and apart from looks (oh and that mac works with 0.1% of software) I really can't see the difference.

Which is why it will be the first and last mac I buy.

It boggles my mind why people would be so fanatic about Macs.

For those who don't know. Macs WERE good because apple built it's business on a completely proprietary model. They had complete control of the hardware AND the software they developed themselves so Macs just worked.

Apple has since abandoned that proprietary model concerning their desktops, because it DIDN'T WORK. They lost to the generic PC's.

Now they are trying the same crap with the iJunk lineup of products and folks are gobbling it up.

I have to admit, the iPhone is pretty spiffy but: can't replace the battery, can't swap memory, can only download from the App store and have to use that crappy iTunes!
You people are nuts and/or stupid.

My smartphone does everything that an iPhone will do, plus it has expandable memory, replacable battery, uses a standard mini-usb plug so I can use the same pc cord and wall plug with my 5 other generic electronic devices that also use a standards compliant plug, it runs Android, so I don't have to rely on any one inept company who thinks they know what is best for me, and it even has an FM radio. I could buy two of my phones for the price of one of your iPhones.

The iPad... I just have to shake my head. It literally makes me sad that people can afford to be so ignorant.

On the other hand, it makes it alot easier to charge you chumps $60/hr to fix your computers when there isn't even anything wrong with it. Easy money for waving dead chickens.

Um... Yeah, It's pretty much the opposite of that. This whole debate is pretty much caused by capitalism at it's most extreme. Not necessarily a bad thing, or a good one. The easiest thing for people debating to lose sight of is the fact that Objectivity is rarely found outside sciences. It's all subjective. I use PC, because I always have, I can't afford to get new stuff anyway, I can use PC effectively because I don't really need the "user friendly" perks, and I'm not savvy enough for Linux.

Basically, Linux is the best operating system, but the trade-off is that it's the hardest to use. Mac is the easiest, but has the least versatility. Windows is middle of the road in almost all categories, which is why it is the most popular OS today. It's all very simple. If you're willing to overlook the shortcomings of your OS of choice, then it doesn't matter what others perceive, and more importantly, if OTHERS are willing to overlook the shortcomings of THEIR OS of choice, it doesn't make a bit of difference what YOU think of the product.

The fact that people are arguing about this is a sign that Both MS and Apple are succeeding: The choice is really just that, a choice. But They want you to believe that the choice is IMPORTANT, rather than just a matter of preference. Product Identity is the #1 strongest force in this country, and is the reason that People argue over which OS is better. Because the companies want you to use their product over others', they create the illusion of objectivity. In the society we live in, Products are produced by various organizations and all released for the People to decide which to purchase. The People are the ones who ultimately decide what gets bought, and the trick to capitalism is to control as much of that Consumer decision as possible. The successful ones are the ones that can convince the most people to purchase their product. The increase in the wealth of the corporations results in large companies that do often make better stuff than smaller ones, due to increased funding and resources, which does admittedly result in a narrower selection of products if one wants the best available, but in that, also creates the illusion that the choice is that much more important. Nobody wants to pick the wrong one, and once they do buy one, they rationalize the correctness of their selection and the superiority of their product to buyers of the competitor who are doing the same.

Both arguments are completely true, no side can convince the other that their product is superior. The only logical reason for this is that the products are indeed of EQUITABLE QUALITY. Therefore:

PC=Mac

They are both completely valid. Pick one based on what you need and want, because it is impossible to pick the better one. Only the better one for you.

After all, In a free capitalist society...
...The Consumers ultimately control the money. We control everything, and the companies have to try and influence us as much as possible. But the bottom line is, it's our money, and we have to decide how to spend it. We can buy what we need, or what others say we need. Who's going to know what you need better?

Apple stopped making its own hardware and adopted Intel chipsets (easier and cheaper to manufacture). Apple stopped making their own software and its latest OS is actually based on a Unix release (BUT IT'S SO PRETTY ). Their offerings are riggy and prone to fail for no reason. (i.e. non-removable, substandard Li-Ion batteries installed in almost all products. Changing them yourself voids the warranty. Well, what warranty there was, which was practically zero anyway.) Their tech support and warranty plans are not even close to industry standard. (And their tech support seems out to screw you anyway.) So. Apple fails it. 'Nuff said. And FFS don't tell me it's pretty. I can run a standard Unix or Linux release lighter and with less proprietary nonsense. I've administrated hundreds of systems over the years and the only problem I ever had was trying to recover a friend's Apple laptop. Sheesh. Leave Apple at the door. Open-source for the win. App-store and proprietary BS for the loss.

Now let me just state that I am typing this on an iPad, and it truly is a amazing little device.

It isn't particularly fast, at least not compared with a laptop. The capacitive touch screen is the same as the iPhone's and, at the end of the day, superficially, it's just an oversized iPod touch.

So what's so incredible about it?
The gestalt of the experience, and the larger screen real state allow developers to create innovative applications, games, new ways to interact with them. Some completely alter the experience and an existing idea in a very tangible and positive manner. Others just devise hassle-free ways to do what you've been doing on your computer for a long time now. All of it in a oroduct that strikes a good balance between portability and usability.

I used to be a Windows fanboy, and most of my computers are stilk PCs. I guess I just realized there are just 'Apples and Oranges', and both fit my life in different ways. In some cases they even work very well together.

Reading the comments on this page fills me with the impression that there's a lot of misplaced and projected anger over a simple product. the product isnt evil or good - It's just a tool that fits a purpose for some people. Don't like it, don't buy it- that is the greatness of a free capitalistic society. And if you think $500-$700 is a steep price to pay for a portable entertainment hub, remind yourself of the value you get for the hundreds of thousands of applications/games available for free, or under $10, whose quality even surpasses that of some available for $50 or more on its PC cousin. As the app store grows and becomes more competitive, prices will fall further, and value received per dollar spent will soar higher. Overall, it was the best money I've spent in a long time.

Why don't you naysayers check out all the apps made for the iPad and realize that what it doesn't come with can be gotten with a simple download. I personally make music and got an awesome sequencer called bleepbox! And it friggin rocks. You can do so much with just software it's crazy! I challenge you to play with one and then you'll see the possibilities. Even if jailbreaking it gives you what you want. The point is, it's mostly just a software thing.

Apple kicks ass at making products they try to control everything which sucks for everyone that follows the rules. But if you just take the time to jailbreak your iphone or whatever get all apps free and anything you want and more. I will get the ipad once they make a jailbreak. Then it will be one of the nicest technology i have seeing how i can already download songs and torrent videos to my iphone as is. without any computer. Definetly needs a camera though.

In the 2007 "hack it to win it" competition, where you have to hack a laptop and then you win it, mac lost in UNDER 60 SECONDS. Windows, Mac and Linux all lined up, mac was first to go. Second was Windows. Linux never got hacked.

It's a stupid idea. It's a stupid competitor to the Kindle seeing as it has a fifth of the battery life and does all the things that smart phones have. We don't need a computer on our tablets. We need long battery life.
And to Saraha who said that Mac's OS is better? If you buy a better color card for your Microsoft computer, it's a much better computer. Microsoft computers let you do a lot more, run a lot more programs, and you don't know anything if you think Mac's cannot get viruses. Of course they can. In the past decade, more people have had PCs, so most viruses were written for PCs. Along with that, all of Apple computers parts are made for Apple, so they are less susceptible to viruses, but certainly get them.

apple makes a superior day to day computing machine than do Dell, HP, Sony, etc. Mac's OS is better for graphics, arts, etc. The keyboards are better on macs than on non macs. The warranty is better for a mac than the average non mac.

Do you want to do daily computer stuff? Take pictures, video, type, email, build a website? Mac is better (oh and they don;t get virus').

You want to run some fucking algorithm and reinvent the wheel, build your own computer.

As far as being a competitor to the kindle, it's a pretty crappy one.

While the kindle pretty much only lets you read e-books, it does it very very well. Battery life is ridiculously long and you can read the screen in bright light very easily. The iPad doesnt' have the battery life and it's a traditional computer screen so direct sunlight becomes an issue.

If you want an ebook reader and already have a laptop/netbook, it'd be dumb to buy the iPad.

Get yourself a netbook for the same money, it can do more.
