Top Smartphone OS Market Share

With the recent release of the Samsung Galaxy III, Samsung now accounts for 44% of all Android smartphones shipped in 2Q12. Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is also helping to boost the market share being gobbled up by Android. This brings the market share of Android up to 68% for 2Q2012 as compared to the 47% market share a year ago in 2Q2011. Some of this marketshare has come from iOS as well.

Smarphone shipments has more than doubled for the Android operating system, as compared to the relatively small 27.5% increase in shipments for Apple. If Apple can keep up with "each new iPhone generation sold approximately equal to all previous generations combined"...then Apple will sell 263 million iPhone units in the next 12 month. Expansion to the prepaid market will definitely help Apple reach this lofty sales estimate.
