3 Million New iPads Sold

Since the Friday launch of the new iPad, Apple announced it has sold 3 million "new iPad". “The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold―the strongest iPad launch yet,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior VP of Worldwide Marketing. Apple announced the 1 Millionth 1st-gen iPad after 1 month on the market, and sold the 3 million iPads in the first full quarter of availability.

Apple didn't announce the first weekend sales of the iPad 2, probably because the demand was detered by the long shipping delay and unavailablity from the start. It seems that Apple has figured out how to put together a launch of the iPad across many international markets on the same day. All of this is tough to do while keeping a lid on the upcoming product being released a week before product availability.
