iPad 2 Under $300

Many have believed that Apple will drop the price point of the tablet down similar to the 8GB iPhone 4 at $99 and the iPhone 3GS for FREE. If Apple can launch a retina version of the iPad and still keep the introduction price at $500, the iPad 2 will likely be kept as a budget iPad version. The Amazon Kindle Fire success may drive down the price even further, from a $100 price cut to $200.

The iPad 2 could continue to be sold as-is (upgrade or remove the camera entirely) to the budget-minded market. The iPad 2 production cost was estimated at around $300 nearly a year ago. The cost of production has certainly dropped somewhat, maybe Verizon can subsidize the iPad 2 down to $199 with a data contract.
