This product is currently not available in the US, but runs £99.95 or around $160 US. This would be nice  to stream TV with my WiFi iPad cruising down the interstate, especially for the kiddos.

JawBone Is Off The Chain

Actually, now it is on the chain...JamChain that is. Today is Wednesday and it "was a good day". Hasan Minhaj does a nice geeky parody of It Was A Good Day by Ice Cube. No low-riders, just bikes and a JawBone on a JamChain.

The JamChain is available for free for Flava Flav wannabes and JamBox owners. You'll have to pay for shipping, hopefully the JamChain includes the handlebar mount for the JamBox.

Comex Q&A On Reddit

Last week, we broke a story via had been hired by Apple. I had hoped that his twitter was hacked and it wasn't true...but was wrong.

Yesterday, Comex had a question and answer session with Redditors. He shared that he has received over $55,000 in donations for his jailbreaking efforts...not bad for a guy that has never had a job before. He plans to return to college to put that money to good use.

Why an intern position though? It seems like you could carry a regular position at apple. (AstroZombie138)

Comex: I don’t know if I’d want to do that- I’ve never had a job before and I don’t know what it’s like- and I intend to go back to college soon.

Have you made any money from the [jailbreak] scene? (jamesvdm)

Comex: I’ve made a good amount of money through donations, which is mostly being used to help pay for college. JailbreakMe 2.0 was like $40,000; 3.0 was $15,000 (not quite sure why it decreased).

What do you think about Apple stealing ideas from jailbroken apps and tweaks

Comex: I certainly don’t mind. Jailbreak community puts an idea in front of people with a crappy implementation; Apple polishes it to the point where it can be an OS feature. I don’t know whether Apple actually pays attention to jailbreak apps, but see App Store, copy and paste, multitasking, etc…

Are you optimistic about the future of the iOS platform? What features are you looking forward to next? (iconoclaus)

Comex: My personal opinion: it will probably continue to beat the pants off its competitors in performance for a while yet, and Apple’s “take your time but do it right” policy on features will probably continue to make it a pleasure to use. But I’m impatient: other platforms (WebOS) have a lot of fun stuff with no real equivalent in iOS.

After your internship with Apple and after iOS 5 is officially released, will you continue to support the jailbreak community by providing exploits? (nishnasty)

Comex: No. (But I’ll want to jailbreak my phone, so I hope someone finds them :p)

iPad Compared To Large LCD TV

Way back in 1954, and RCA television with a 12 inch screen would run you $1,000, nearly 50 years later Samsung offered a 40-inch LCD television for around $8,000. Televisions here in the U.S. are expected to fall 10% to under $600 this quarter, and likely slip to under $580 by the end of the year.

Comparing the under 10" LCD display of the iPad 2 to a 40+ inch television seems a little absurd. Maybe it doesn't cost much more to produce a 42" display as compared to the iPad 2 touchscreen display. 3-D and other display features have kept the premium brand of televisions over a couple thousands dollars here in the U.S. though.

5 Row Keyboard, Cydia Tweak

5-Row Keyboard for iPad is a great paid Cydia application that does exactly what you'd think...add a 5th row to your iPad keyboard. The 5th row mimics the standard top row on a normal keyboard, no more hassling with a number or symbol shiftkey. You are able to customize is you prefer numbers or symbols as the default top row, and the selection switches when you press the shift key.

Above and below are a couple screenshots taken at the spotlight screen which is why the enter key says "search". Combining the 5-Row Keyboard for iPad with Black Keyboard (a free Cydia Tweak) for added effect!

To install just open Cydia, switch to "search" tab, and type the number "5". Only a few tweaks start with 5...

iOS 5 AirPlay Mirroring On iPad

For non-jailbreakers, AirPlay mirroring will have to wait until iOS 5. We are getting very close to the launch of the new iPhone (what is an iPhone) along with iOS 5 for the iPad. Basically, when AirPlay mirroring is enabled you can see everything on your iPad on your HD TV. Videos, games, documents, and whatever can instantly be beamed from your iPad to your television.

Steve Jobs Reign At Apple

Steve Jobs resignation letter may have all been a mistake. I hereby "resign" as CEO of Apple must have been a tough sentence to write for the former Apple CEO.

Via what is an iPhone

Hopefully Steve Jobs best selling book doesn't have any autocorrection issues with it!

Flipboard TV Shows

According to Reuters, Flipboard is planning to add television shows and films to their business structure...along with an iPhone (finally..) App.

The iPad App of the year (Flipboard) hasn't disclosed how many people use their app on a regular basis, but 3 million people have downloaded it. Conde Nast says their four publications on Flipboard averages about 100,000 readers each, as compared to millions for the regular online websites for the publications. Flipboard began to display ads with a shared revenue agreement with Conde Nast. Flipboard is expected to make an operating profit this year, but McCue says the money will likely be reinvested.

Steve Jobs, Best Seller

Well, it is still nearly 3 months until the official release of Steve Jobs authorized biography "Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson" and it is already #2 at Amazon.

Walter Isaacson was given unprecedented access to Steve Jobs:

Based on more than forty interviews with Steve Jobs conducted over two years — as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues — Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

Many news reports have confirmed that the Isaacson is hard at work on the final chapter, which promises to provide us with details around the announcement that Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple. Book arrives November 21st, just in time for your Black Friday holiday shopping for that Apple geek brother of yours.

Comex Hired By Apple

Like you, I am hoping that comex had his twitter hacked...otherwise it appears that our 2011 Pwnie Award winner has taken a job over at Apple.

Just a few hours ago, comex (Nicholas Allegra) announced that he will no longer be providing jailbreak hacks for our iPhone or iPad.

Since comex already knows iOS inside and out, he will definitely be a good fit for Apple. In the long run, I'd assume that jailbreaking will become even more difficult in future iOS versions since comex will be helping to plug all the holes.

Just so long as comex doesn't bring down JailbreakMe.com for the easy hack.

Charting Apples Success With CEO Steve Jobs

The market cap at Apple has increased from $3 billion to $347 billion, with a short stint as the most valuable public company in the world. Currently, Apple is $2 billion behind Exxon. Shareholders are certainly sad to see this valuable CEO leave.

Via: Business Insider

Stock prices have increased 6,754% during the helm of Steve Jobs. Investors have enjoyed an average return of over 35% for the past 14 years, congrats Steve!

Again via Business Insider

"For some perspective, if the stock was to grow 6,754% under new CEO Tim Cook, it would trading at $25,797 per share, and its market cap would be $23.6 trillion."

iPhone Evolution (so far)

IntoMobile has created this inforgraphic featuring the details and progression of the different iPhone models. The new iPhone 4G specifications have been added based on the best rumor (oxymoron?) available. Not sure about you, but my iPhone 4 will be up on craigslist come October.

Apple Resignation Letter, Steve Jobs

It has taken less than 24 hours to remove Steve Jobs from Apple CEO to his new position of Chairman of the Board, Director and Apple employee. Steve's health has been deteriorating for the past few years, requiring a couple leave of absences to be taken. Steve cofounded Apple in 1976 along with Steve Wozniak...

Here is Steve Jobs resignation letter to the Apple Board of Directors

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Dock Label Removal For iPad (Cydia Tweak)

Now we all know what the icons along the bottom row of our iPhone and iPad stand for...right? Well a new Cydia tweak called 'No Dock Labels' allows you the ability to hide/remove the dock icon labels. Pretty simple, removes the unnecessary labels from your most popular apps.

Just head to Cydia and give it a try!

Here are the best free cydia tweaks as well as the best paid cydia tweaks.

Android OS Malware Increases

According to a report by McAfee, malware targeted at Android devices was up over 75% as compared to the past quarter. It is surprising to not see iOS listed in the chart below, the argument used to be that Apple platforms weren't popular enough to get attention by malware developers.

“This year we’ve seen record-breaking numbers of malware, especially on mobile devices, where the uptick is in direct correlation to popularity,” said Vincent Weafer, senior vice president of McAfee Labs. “Overall attacks are becoming more stealth and more sophisticated, suggesting that we could see attacks that remain unnoticed for longer periods of time. High-profile hacktivist groups have also changed the landscape by drawing a line between attacks for personal gain and attacks meant to send a message.”

Tablets Being Adopted By Older Crowd

According to a study by Nielsen, the demographics of Tablet owners are shifting...becoming much more popular with the older crowd. After my grandma adopted her cell phone and started texting like a teenager, the family decided to get her an iPad a few weeks back. I see her on facebook or her "Words With Friends HD" app all the time, we may need to upgrade her 3G data plan!

Now I fall into the orange category (25-34) and see that we are not representing well. I guess when you are trying to buy your first house and pay for diapers/formula the iPad isn't really a priority.

It looks like women are getting becoming more tolerable to hauling around an eReader or Tablet.

iPhone, iPad Folders A Little Off

There is certainly more a little off about this post that the Apple iPhone folder triangle. Matt Binkowski identified on his blog that Apple placed the triangle identifying the folder opened is off by one pixel. Some certainly have no better things to do...

How can Apple live with this error...definitely going to require another beta or a jailbreak to iOS 5 to correct this!

Typical Apple attention to detail!

Best Steve Jobs Quotes

Steve Jobs announced his resignation, lets remember him through some of his greatest quotes.

“It takes these very simple-minded instructions—‘Go fetch a number, add it to this number, put the result there, perceive if it’s greater than this other number’––but executes them at a rate of, let’s say, 1,000,000 per second. At 1,000,000 per second, the results appear to be magic.”

Playboy, Feb. 1, 1985

“I’ll always stay connected with Apple. I hope that throughout my life I’ll sort of have the thread of my life and the thread of Apple weave in and out of each other, like a tapestry. There may be a few years when I’m not there, but I’ll always come back."

Playboy, Feb. 1, 1985

"It's really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don't know what they want until you show it to them."

BusinessWeek, May 25, 1998

"I'm the only person I know that's lost a quarter of a billion dollars in one year.... It's very character-building."

Apple Confidential 2.0

“That’s been one of my mantras -- focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”

BusinessWeek, May 25, 1998

“Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful… that’s what matters to me.”

The Wall Street Journal, May 25, 1993

“No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true."

Stanford commencement speed, June 2005

“I think if you do something and it turns out pretty good, then you should go do something else wonderful, not dwell on it for too long. Just figure out what’s next.”

NBC Nightly News, May 2006

I guess maybe the iPad camera isn't that bad...

Apple Store Sales Efficiency

As reported by RetailSails, Apple retails stores average nearly double the sales per square foot of Tiffany. Apple's premium branding, along with strategically placed retail stores (see Grand Central Terminal) have led to much success for Apple.

Apple essentially created a brand and following in a relatively short period of time, the first Apple store is barely 10 years old. There are more than 300 Apple Stores throughout the world, with 240 in the United States alone. I bet the Apple App Store has had more success per sq pixel than any other online retailer.

Logitech Fold-Up Keyboard For iPad 2

Next month, Logitech is expected to launch a new folding keyboard case for the iPad 2. This new case is basically a stand for your iPad 2 while the keyboard is in use, the full size keyboard folds beneath the iPad 2 when not being used. Logitech designed this new iPad bluetooth keyboard to automatically shut off when it is folded away, and enabled charging through USB.

This case seems very bulky, but it does accomplish its intended functional, the case may even protect the iPad 2 from a nasty fall. This iPad bluetooth keyboard setup allows for Apple smart cover functionality as well, it just doesn't seem to be very thin or light.

Logitech's Keyboard folding setup runs $130 and will be available in September.

POS iPad

Here POS is standing for Point-Of-Sale instead of the more popular alternative. According to All Things D, Apple may permanently be replacing the cash register. Lowes, Home Depot, Nordstrom, Pacific Sun and Urban Outfitters have implemented handheld devices, albeit an iPad or iPhone.

Lowe's is utilizing Apple technology to access how-to videos, check inventory, and locate the aisle merchandise is located at the store. They are becoming less and less, cash registers...since I just used my debit card for a $2 purchase at a gas station this morning. NFC implemetation for the iPad could make electronic purchases even more smooth. POS, there's an app for that!

Saurik Files Lawsuit For Cydia.com

Jay Freeman (saurik) is known by millions of jailbreakers as the creator of Cydia, he has now filed a lawsuit to get the Cydia.com domain from its current owner. Saurikit LLC states in the lawsuit that the owner of Cydia.com is infringing on the Cydia trademark and is requesting transfer of its ownership.

His previous request for this domain through the URDP (uniform disupte resolution policy) for domain names was denied since the current owner registered Cydia.com 6 years ago. Cydia, now available for the iPad, was originally introduced for iPhones a couple years ago in 2007. Jay Freeman is also requesting that legal fees be paid as a result of this action.

Currently cydia resides over at cydia.saurik.com
