iOS 5 Jailbreak Being Worked On

If you think the Chronic Dev Team has been on summer break the past few months, you are wrong. iOS 5 has been released to developers (and jailbreakers alike) in beta for testing of application interaction. This has been going on since the announcement of iOS 5 features back in June at WWDC 2011. iOS 5 Beta 7 has been jailbroken theoretically, which is why the jailbreaks come so quickly after the launch of a new iOS.

According to a tweet by @pod2g, an untethered iOS 5 Jailbreak is in the works and could be ready promptly after the final release of iOS 5. So far the iPad 2 has eluded the jailbreaker teams, hopefully the similarly equipped iPhone 5 with the A5 processor doesn't miss out on an iOS 5 iPad jailbreak for too long.

Current beta versions of iOS 5, and all previous versions back to beta 1, could only be jailbroken using a "tethered" methods. A tethered iPad jailbreak is definitely more cumbersome to maintain requiring the jailbreak to be applied following each powering off of the iPad.
