Average Monthly Data Usage For iPhone, Android

If you're like me, you are using your smartphone more everyday. According to this report by Nielsen, data usage rates have doubled from 2009 to 2010, and again from 2010 to 2010. The monthly analysis of smartphone data usage shown below was based on 65,000 lines, this consistent doubling has likely lead to Verizon's removal of unlimited data to transition to tiered data plans.

Here is a breakdown of the average monthly data usage by OS: Note that tha average Android owner uses 582 MB of data each month as compared to the 492 MB for the iPhone user.

Looking at my data usage history at Verizon on my Droid, I would easily fall in the 98th or 99th percentile each month. In June 2010, my data usage jumped as I started to tether my iPad to my Droid...I don't have this information tracked separately.

Now that I'm using an iPhone, it will be interesting to see if the data usage is higher each month.
