According to a press release regarding WWDC topics:
"Apple will unveil its next generation software – Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS® X; iOS 5, the next version of Apple’s advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad®, iPhone® and iPod touch®; and iCloud®, Apple’s upcoming cloud services offering."
Now I know that one of the first things you all want is a jailbreak for iOS 5, and that will likely take a couple weeks/months to find the exploits. But here are some of the things we are expecting to see in iOS 5 for the iPad/iPhone.
Dual-display app mode
One of the best ways to utilize the thick screen, would be to run Mail and Safari apps side by side in landscape mode. In portrait mode these dual running apps could be the top half and bottom half.
Apple is looking to release a “completely revamped” notifications system in iOS 5. Apple's iOS notifications have been clunky and annoying for quite some time, there is much room for improvement in the current version of iOS.
Apple’s dashboard widgets for OS X may provide some insight for iOS, hopefully providing similar live updating information at a glance without opening. This would make peoples overall experience with the iPhone and iOS much smoother!
Nuance Voice Recognition Technology
Dragonsoft Naturally Speaking creators have reportedly been in discussions with Apple to bring voice recognition to iOS and eliminate the need for any buttons on iDevices.
iCloud Media Stream and Photo Stream
iCloud could likely handle all your email, contacts, calendars, bookmarks, notes and more across computers. But iCloud will separate itself from Mobile Me with Cloud Syncing, Control and Music to allow users library scanning and syncing instead of the uploading requirement.
