According to Digital Daily via All Things Digital it appears that Apple did indeed buy iCloud.com from Swedish based Xcerion. Many have reported that the price tag for the domain was $4.5 million, but Apple declined to state whether the price was accurate.
This is a small price to pay to put the 500,000 sq-ft North Carolina data center to good use. It is likely that this domain, and the iCloud name will be abused similarly to iTunes. The name “Castle” has been uncovered in Apple code, leading many to believe that an iCloud-like feature is coming to upgrade the company’s MobileMe service, which was discontinued as a retail product a few months back.
I wonder if Apple will let Cydia move it's cloud from Amazon to iCloud.com?
