Apple blocked Sony’s Reader app from making it into the App Store. As Time Warner Cable and other providers are beginning to gain traction with television streaming apps, Sony has now joined the club.
Sony has been trying and working hard to bringing a new application to iOS which could showcase Sony's video content. Sony’s free Crackle app was approved by Apple (on Monday) and gives you access to hundreds of movies from Sony Pictures Classics, Columbia Pictures, Screen Gems, and Tri-Star libraries. Also included is a variety of TV episodes such as Seinfeld, Married with Children.
Sony is providing high-quality video streaming through Crackle, since this is a free application you'll encounter short ads that appear during the video content. The overall selection of movies is much more limited as compared to other services like Netflix, but this free app includes more than 200 video titles.
The Crackle app interface is quite simple to use in browsing for movies and TV shows, and viewing featured and "most popular" movies. The application enables you to pause and resume playback from where you left off. There is also a personalized queue management system for viewing content within the iOS application or online at Crackle.com. This app definitely has some possibilities and by starting off free with minimal advertisement is a good way to get off on the right foot!
Crackle is available for FREE from the App Store and is a universal iOS app.
