Speed Test: Droid vs iPhone

Blaze Software revealed today thay the Android mobile browser was "significantly" faster than Safari running on an iPhone. Blaze ran over 40,000 different tests using the "Fortune 1000" websites and determined that Android was over 50% faster on average. Android phones were running only 2.2 Froyo or 2.3 Gingerbread, while the iPhone ran either iOS 4.2.x or iOS 4.3.

From the Blaze Software Blog

“We were very surprised by the results”, said Guy Podjarny, Blaze CTO and Co-Founder. “We assumed that it would be closer race and that the latest JavaScript speed improvements would have a more material impact on performance. The fact that Android beat iPhone by such a large margin was not expected”.
