Today: Google Honeycomb Event

he new version of the Android platform dubbed Honeycomb is getting close to release for tablets as this version is specifically optimized for larger screens. This new virtual and holographic UI design is quite elegant, bringing enhanced multitasking, rich notifications, homescreen tweaks, widgets and a 3D experience.

Here is a quick overview of Honeycomb:

System Bar - Across the bottom with quick access to notifications, system status, and soft navigation buttons...this bar can be dimmed for fullscreen video viewing.


Action Bar - Across the top of the screen and is present when an application is in use with specific function and attributes dependent on the application in use.

5 Home Screens - Each screen is set up on a large grid for widgets, shortcuts, wallpapers and universal search box for apps/contacts/files/webcontent and more.

Multitasking - A recent app list is available in the System Bar to see tasks in progress and jump back and forth easily and quickly.

Keyboard - Redesigned to make text entry fast and accurate along with text/voice input modes.


Copy/Paste - This new UI allow the user to quickly select text to and from the clipboard.

Connectivity Options - Built-in support for media/photo transfer for instant sync with USB connected storage device.

Enhanced Standard App List:

Browser - Multiple tabs integrated along with "incognito" mode; improved zoom and scrolling


Camera/Gallery - Apps redesiged to take advantage of larger screen


Contacts - Improved formating, editing and use.


Email - Dual pane UI for viewing and organizing messages and sync of attachments
