Chinese housewives, according to a WSJ Blog, have been caught red-handed and not for smuggling drugs... but instead, iPads!
Custom officials in a Chinese city just across the border from Hong Kong, caught 14 women tying to carry 88 iPads and 340 mobile phones across the border. One of the women had 65 phones (iPhones) strapped around her waist and another 20 in a handbag.
These women were earning around $30 USD per smuggle across the border.
As we previously reported back in September, the WiFi version of the iPad is available in China...but these being smuggled were likely the 3G version which is not available yet. China has enforced a tax on any iPad that is carried into the country.
Differing in the U.S. smuggling concerns, China is involved with a "War On iDrugs"...either that or they will have to settle with the iPed knockoff!
