Jailbreak for iOS 4 for Apple's iPhone 3GS

Users can now run unauthorized code on their iOS 4 equipped iPhone 3GS, as well as iPhone 3G and iPod touch, thanks to the latest Jailbreak released by hackers.

Users of the iPhone 3GS that jailbroke their handset can upgrade to Apple's latest mobile operating system with PwnageTool 4.0.1, released by the iPhone Dev-Team. This is also available for the iPhone 3G and the 2nd Gen iPod Touch. PwnageTool 4.0, was not compatible with the iPhone 3GS.

The hack will not work on the iPhone 2G or 1st Gen iPod Touch, both of which can't run Apple's iOS 4 anyways. In addition, the 3rd Gen iPod Touch still cannot be jailbroken.

Apple became slightly more aggressive against jailbreak attempts when it quietly updated the BootROM in the iPhone 3GS...first time ever that the company had enhanced the security of its hardware in the middle of a product line without a release of a new model.

iOS 4 still has a number of features missing for iPhone 3G users:
  • ability to multitask
  • wallpaper backgrounds for home screens
  • plenty more..
Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs reportedly said in an e-mail that the icon animation with backgrounds "didn't perform well enough" with the iPhone 3G.

  1. I have got 3GS and iPhone OS 3 jailbreaked, kirikae installed so a quite usable backgrounding is enabled. Therefore I already have this feature in 3.0. I am not interested in wallpapers as well. My question is what is new in 4.0 that is worth the time of upgrade?
