If you are traveling out of the country anytime soon, there is a different option for you. The iPed has just been released in Shenzhen, China and it's only going to set you back a cool $150 or so, less than a third of the price compared to Apple's asking price of $500 for its lowest model of iPads.
The iPed supposedly has a 600-MHz RockChip processor and a screen resolution of only 800 by 480 pixels. In comparison, the iPad's Apple A4 processor is powered at 1 GHz with a display of 1024-by-768-pixel screen. That said, the iPad's 9.7-inch display is a bit bigger than the iPed's 7-inch screen.
