iPad Tether

I've discussed previously why the iPad 3G is almost not necessary if you have an advanced phone such as a iPhone 3G or a Droid. These both allow you to tether your iPad to a 3G signal with minimal inconvience and cost.

In order to tether the iPhone to connect to the iPad, your iPhone must be jailbroken. For my Droid, I just rooted it and installed the Ultimate Droid ROM which included a WiFi Tether App. I dropped a few bucks as a donation to the developer, and easy...breezy.

You can purchase MyWi from Cydia for $9.99. However, there’s cracked version available in Cydia via beyouriphone and sinfuliphone repos.

Don't want to spend an extra $130 on the iPad 3G? Then use MyWi to tether your iPhone's 3G Internet Connection to your iPad. This will also save you an additional $30 per month. This video will show you how to tether your iPhone's 3G or EDGE Data Connection to your iPad. This works on all iPhones-iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS. Data tethering using MyWi works on any WiFi enabled device. MyWi creates a WiFi network out of your cellular data connection. You can also set up a WEP key so that the network will have a password. This works on T-Mobile and AT&T as well as any other GSM cellular network.

  1. As there is a possibility you'll have an iPad cause you don't have an iPhone :-P, you can also do the same with a Symbian or Maemo device with JoikuSpot!

The free version should be enough usually ;-)

  2. Can I use my ipad as the 3G source and tether my laptop to it?

  3. Any chance this would work over Bluetooth? I have iPad and blackberry storm. Maybe a future app that uses Bluetooth....if its even possible?

  4. this is a lie!! i went to the apple store before buying the Ipad and it connects but it doesnt let you open any page!!
not sure if the Ipad has to be jailbroken to do this???

  5. yes u have to jailbreak

iPad, I'm Lovin' IT!
